Find the Locker Room, a beloved local gem in Thong Lor, Bangkok, has introduced a fresh selection of drinks in its Time Capsule Menu. This menu, a playful homage to pop-culture nostalgia, is divided into three categories: fashion, toys, and music. The first Time Capsule Menu, launched in 2022, was a nostalgic journey through fashion, toys and music of the 60s-80s, featuring fans' favourites such as Who Wears Short Shorts, Magic F8 and Strawberry Fields.
The newly launched cocktails continue the journey of nostalgia, drawing inspiration from fashion, toys, and music from the 1990s to the 2010s. Each drink is a unique blend that encapsulates the essence of its era.
In the fashion category, a drink named Iconic has been created as a tribute to the 90s Nike Air Max. This concoction is a clarified milk punch crafted with Hendrick's Gin, smoked shoyu, yoghurt, wasabi, lactic acid, and citrus water. The drink is then crowned with blue apple air foam. The result is a visually stunning drink with a complex flavour profile that offers smoky, tangy, and slightly sweet tastes.
Another drink in the same category is Bougie Princess. Thanks to socialite Paris Hilton for her contribution with her signature pink Juicy Couture tracksuit, making the tracksuit a women's wardrobe staple in the 2000s. The drink is made with Bacardi Cuatro, toasted bread distillate, blueberry rice milk, vanilla syrup, Frangelico, lemon, and basil. It is garnished with a house-made fondant heart. This cocktail is well-rounded, refreshing, and complex.
Dip-dye hair was a fashion trend in the 2010s. People express their unique personalities and moods through their hair colours. Just the Tips is a cocktail inspired by this trend. It is a two-layer drink consisting of a bottom layer in crimson colour made from a blend of Peychaud's bitters, cranberry, and jasmine tonic. The top layer is navy blue and is made with Roku Gin, Blueberry Cordial, Mr Black Cold Brew, and Lemon. To fully enjoy the quencher, it is recommended to sip the bottom layer first and then mix the two until they are emulsified.
In the toys category, the new drink trio is vibrant and visually appealing. The new additions start with the Mushroom Kingdom, which is inspired by the 90s Nintendo hit video game Super Mario. This cocktail is a blend of Suntory Kakubin whisky, Aperol, lemon juice, mushroom ketchup, and absinthe. To add a little something extra, a frozen peach wedge is used as a garnish. The whisky gives it a smooth base, while the Aperol and lemon juice give it a refreshing and tangy flavour. The mushroom ketchup adds a unique savoury taste, and honey adds a touch of sweetness. And let's not forget the absinthe! It gives an extra punch to the overall taste. Lastly, the frozen peach gives an additional layer of texture and sweetness.
During the 2000s, the Pokemon franchise was a massive phenomenon. Kids and fans of all ages used to shout the famous catchphrase, "Pikachu, I choose you!" Everyone had to have at least one Pokemon-related item at home, whether it be a figurine, video game, comic book, or CD set of every anime series episode. Find the Locker Room's cocktail, I Choose You, is made with Bacardi Carta Blanca, green apple, sake, and lemon juice. On top of the glass, yuzu foam and beetroot foam with a blueberry in the centre resemble a Pokeball. The drink is fruity with a balance of beetroot.
Restless Palate is an homage to fidget toys, which came in various shapes and colours. These toys were designed to help people who had trouble focusing or coping with anxiety, and they were trendy in the 2010s. The Restless Palate consists of Suntory Kakubin Whisky infused with longan and ginger, Disaronno, and Frangelico. It is served with colourful toppings such as matcha-lychee sorbet, jelly and local syruped fruits. The drink offers a warm, tropical, rich taste, nutty sweetness, and a smooth, creamy finish. The vivid toppings make for a fun and vibrant experience.
The final category, music, consists of drinks inspired by three famous songs of the later eras. In the 90s, the Brit-pop band Oasis was the voice of struggling middle-class kids. Cigarette and Alcohol is a song that reflects the hardship that kids in that class and era had to go through, which led to alcohol and tobacco abuse. This spirit-forward drink inspired by that song, Angst of a Generation, is a blend of Dewar's 15 Years Old, Creme de Cacao Dark, Dry Prosecco, and spiced beer reduction. This cocktail is smooth and rich, with a subtle hint of chocolate. The Prosecco adds dryness and bubbles, while the warmth from the spiced beer reduction gives it a unique flavour. The drink is served with a fake cigarette made from a white chocolate-coated breadstick dipped in ground sesame.
Fix You by Coldplay was a hit in the 2000s. The song gained the band new fans, touching people's hearts and bringing some to tears. The cocktail, Figs You, is made from Patron Silver infused with figs, creating a rich and flavourful base. This luscious concoction is then artfully combined with sweet vermouth and a perfect touch of Angostura bitters, resulting in a harmonious blend of sweet and savoury notes. As a final touch, the cocktail is elegantly garnished with a dried fig delicately skewered, adding visual appeal and a hint of natural sweetness.
Last but not least, "Targets Locked" is a cocktail inspired by the success of K-pop girl group Black Pink in entering the global market with the song "Whistle" in the 2010s. This cocktail features rich and smooth Chivas 12 Years Old, sweet and tangy Makgeolli, and citrusy lemon. The tartness is balanced by strawberry syrup, while beetroot adds an earthy note and colour. Finally, Baijiu is added to give the drink a subtle kick. A dark, spicy tamarind jelly is stuck to the glass to complement the drink and add texture.
The Time Capsule Menu by the renowned cocktail bar Find the Locker Room will take drinkers and patrons back in time through sipping and taste time.
