Siam Piwat Company Limited is a prominent real estate and retail developer that places great emphasis on sustainability. With ownership and operation of various renowned destinations, including Siam Paragon, Siam Center, and Siam Discovery, as well as partnerships with ICONSIAM, ICS, and Siam Premium Outlets Bangkok, the company is committed to prioritising sustainable business practices that have a positive impact on the environment.
Siam Piwat collaborated with G-YU Creative and Embassy Japan in Thailand to organise the SPOGOMI WORLD CUP 2023 THAILAND, a groundbreaking event showcasing Thailand's first-ever garbage-picking sports competition. The winner of the garbage-picking competition will represent Thailand in the SPOGOMI WORLD CUP 2023, which takes place in Japan. This initiative raises local awareness and promotes global participation in the competition, offering engaging, educational and entertaining content to transform trash management into an enjoyable experience. The competition occurred from 1-2 July 2023 at Parc Paragon, M Floor of Siam Paragon.
The opening ceremony of Thailand's first sustainability competition was attended by the Governor of Bangkok, Mr Chadchart Sittipunt, who released the contestants. The event was a joint effort between public and private sector alliances with a shared vision of promoting environmental sustainability. These alliances included the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA), Pathumwan District Office, Property Management of Chulalongkorn University, and PTT Global Chemical Public Company Limited (GC).
The SPOGOMI WORLD CUP 2023 THAILAND didn't only offer an exciting environmental-conscious competition but also hosted several activities aimed at saving the environment. These activities included an exhibition showcasing integrated waste management under the "Siam Piwat 360° Waste Journey to Zero Waste" initiative. Attendees could also participate in the "Trash for Beverage" initiative by Can Café, exchanging collected trash for special beverages packaged in recycled aluminium cans. Moreover, eco-friendly workshop activities were conducted by Hoo DIY and waste reduction cycling activities were organised by Greenery.
The competition followed the same rules and regulations as the one in Japan. Participants began their task at Siam Paragon, collecting rubbish from the surrounding area for an hour. After that, they returned to Parc Paragon to sort the waste into four categories: plastic, glass and aluminium, paper, and cigarette butts. The proportion of each category determined the points awarded to each participant. All waste collected from the competition was disposed of in an environmentally-friendly manner, following the principles of the circular economy. Additionally, a portion of the plastic waste was allocated to GC's You Turn plastic management project.
The team that achieved the highest score in the garbage collection competition will represent Thailand in the global event called "SPOGOMI WORLD CUP 2023" on 22nd November 2023 in Tokyo, Japan. The winning team also received a prize package that includes a top-of-the-line food waste shredder from HASS, exclusive Shadow 5,000 Midnight Swimming special edition shoes from Saucony, and other remarkable rewards. Additionally, all participants earned twice the usual amount of VIZ Coins as part of Siam Piwat's RCC Double Point campaign, designed to reward environmentally conscious Thai participants. These VIZ Coins can be redeemed for a variety of benefits through the ONESIAM SuperApp.
